Self Image

We have often heard of the term Self Image but let's take a deeper look at what it means from a Biblical perspective.

Self Image can be thought of as the idea one has of their abilities appearance and personality. The concept of one's self or role.

When we look at celebrities like Beyonce many women both young and mature look up to her not only because of her beautiful voice but because of the image she created of herself. Many people want to dress like her and look like her but what is self-image really based on God's word? what does God desire from us as Christian women today.

Let's look at 1Peter 3: 3-4 (NIV)

3Your beauty should not come from outward adornments, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes 4 Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.

MSG Bible What matters is not the styling of your hair the jewelry you wear, the cut of your clothes your but inner disposition.

In this scripture, Peter was speaking to the wives about their conduct and character concerning their relationship with their husbands. He goes on to tell them of the attitude they should have as submissive, respectful, and chase. He also lets the wives whose husbands are not saved know that the way they carry themselves by their lifestyle, walk, and talk can be the thing that determines if their unsaved husband will come to Christ. Peter never said that we should not wear, makeup, hair, or jewelry but he plainly states that our focus should not be on these things but on Inner Beauty, this actually blew my mind because its right there in the word of the importance of Inner Beauty so much so that by it and unsaved husband can be saved. The emphasis in this scripture is to not focus on your outward appearance but your inner disposition.

Your inner disposition speaks of a person's mood or general attitude about life. The positive or negative way a person views the world.

Chapter 4 MSG version says to Cultivate inner beauty, the gentle gracious kind that God delights in.

So how do we cultivate inner beauty?

Cultivating is developing a quality or skill.

Spending time with the Holy Spirit is the only way to develop true inner beauty by spending time in prayer, fasting, and in the word. We don't become beautiful inwardly overnight it's a process of cultivation and willingness to allow the Holy Spirit to work in and through you to make you into that beautiful person that he created you to be.

Your Self Image should not be determined by what you wear but by what's inside of you. Are you full of love or are you full of anger, jealousy, envy, deceit, bitterness, strife, lying

The word of God also says it's not what comes from the outside in that defiles a man but what comes from the inside out. Matthew 15:11

I want to encourage you today to let your inner beauty shine through don"t allow yourself to be caught up in the outer appearance that you never work on your heart. Remember the heart is what God sees not the outward parts of you.
