What does it mean to draw close to God? How does one position themselves?
I know there are times when everything may be going wrong or you may be under heavy spiritual attack that you may become so weary that you just open the bible look at it, and close it before you can even start to read or you may not even know where to begin. Well here are 5 tips that I use and have helped me to draw closer to God despite what is happening in my life.
Tip 1: Designate a specific time to spend with him.
This is something you will have to sit back and evaluate your life to see where exactly during your 24hr day you can be alone with him. Being a wife, mother of a toddler, and entrepreneur I had to take a step back and figure out what time works best for me. My husband works from 8:00 am to sometimes 7:30 pm or later, I had to spend quality time with my baby girl while working from home. My day was packed with delivery trips and talking to customers daily. So when my husband finally got home and my daughter winds down that would be around 11:00 pm. I had two choices spend time with God in the wee hours of the morning then sleep or sleep and wake up before 6:00 am. This requires a sacrifice, if you want to draw closer to God there is a price we all have to pay.
Matthew 14:23 After sending them home, he went up into the hills by himself to pray. Night fell while he was there alone.
Tip 2: Remove every distractions.
This is a big one for me. I love to multitask so i can do 2 things at once effortlessly. However when it comes to drawing close to God he needs your undivided attention. So during your alone time nothing and no one else should have your focus. God wants your heart fixed and positioned to receive fresh revelation without having to fight for your attention. For example you cannot read your bible and continuously keep checking your phone every time you get a notification. How about listening to a message on your computer while doing work at home( there is nothing wrong with this but i have learned that its more effective when you just settled down and give God all of your attention).Sometimes we can miss things by doing more than one thing at a time.
(Philippians 3 13:14)
Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus."
Tip 3: Worship
If you don't know where to start, worship is a good way to let go and allow the Holy Spirit to come in. Just begin by welcoming his presence into your room or wherever you may be. Begin by opening your mouth and thanking him for who he is in your life, for what he has done. And as you do this there will be a drawing of his presence and before you know it you will be in that secret place.
Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double-minded. James 4:8 (KJV)
Tip: 4 Use your heavenly language.
You ever felt bombarded by everything that's surrounding you?
As for me praying in the spirit helps build up your spirit man and removes every mental distraction. Using your heavenly language positions you to receive from God with a focused and clear mind. It also clears the pathway around you of every demonic influence that may be set up in the atmosphere to distract you from drawing closer to God.
But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in t
he Holy Ghost. Jude 1:20 (KJV)
Tip: 5 Pray
Prayer is our lifeline to the Father. Its how we communicate our hearts to him and let him know how we feel and he in turn responds to us. Daughters of God, the Father's desire is to commune with you daily. He wants to know what's going on in your world but most important he wants to hear your heart, what hurts you, the things you may not understand he wants to know it all and please know he will never judge you and he will never share your secrets with anyone. Prayer develops an intimate relationship with God and draws you to the secret place where he dwells.
Jeremiah 29:12 (NIV) Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.
